Sing for Joy

Bauer Evans, on September 13, 2020. Part of the A New Perspective series

Prop: In times of trouble, our confidence and joy is found in the character of our God.

Key points

Three marks of a Christian who is growing in confidence in the character of God:

Point 1
God is loving ~ are you confident in His personal care? (vv. 1-4)

> How has the current crisis tested your confidence in His personal care?
> How do you remind yourself that you are under His personal care?

Point 2
God is merciful ~ is His help evident in the daily routines of your life? (vv. 5-8)

> Has the current season challenged your confidence in His mercy towards you?
> How do you pursue His help everyday?

Point 3
God is just ~ is your ultimate hope in the vindication of Christ? (vs. 9-11)

> Has has this season strengthened your confidence in gospel of Christ?
> What are you tempted to forget when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Psalm 63

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

63:1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.

But those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down into the depths of the earth;
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God;
all who swear by him shall exult,
for the mouths of liars will be stopped. (ESV)
